Books

I have been writing fiction since I was little, and I started developing this fantasy series about twenty years ago. Finally, I have accomplished finishing the first of the series “Tales Of Delphir”.

“A good friend of mine told me right at the beginning of this journey that I could not win this war, that all I could do was to try and live a little while longer. She meant it to be a warning, but you know what I believe? That this is all we ever can do in this life.”

When he sets out to conquer the continent Dakash Dakahr, the ruthless mercenary general of Seban, envisions the future quite clearly. He will resurrect the lost empire of Delphir and rule as High King. Yet upon his triumphant return home he finds himself betrayed by his enemies.

With his king complicit in his downfall and his queen pleading with him to protect her young son, Nasgeith, Dakash barely manages to escape with the little prince. Hunted by his own soldiers he soon comes to realize that keeping the boy safe will demand more than his signature wit and resolve. He needs allies. Dakash finds them in the shape of the alluring Fahra Deswinn, a group of inexperienced yet immeasurably brave recruits, the secretive Shigan, and the vengeful clan warriors of Mandana under the leadership of Marl Wynterland and Bryon Brokenlance. While their bond grows amid a series of harrowing adventures, Dakash knows it is not enough. The odds stacked against them are too high. But if he cannot escape his fate, he will have his revenge. At any cost.

Dakash Dakahr: Villain Or Hero?

The fantasy genre is usually all about epic adventures and the hero’s journey. Underdog challenges the oppressive regime, humble journeyman saves the world, that kind of story. And while some of the tales set in my world follow those traditions, it is, ultimately, a dark fantasy.

Which is why Dakash is not the underdog challenging evil but, as the callous conqueror of almost all the continent, he is the evil the world unites against. That, in turn, makes for some very interesting challenges and dynamics, and creates a protagonist poised to rule the world, not save it. Dakash is someone very accustomed to navigating the pitfalls of power, as well as manipulating enemies and allies alike.

A master swordsman and accomplished strategist Dakash commands respect among both his troops and the noblemen he serves. But he is also well-versed in coercing those unsure of their own wants and wishes, or blinded by greed. His natural charm is a tool he uses to beguile and seduce both men and women, to then turn them into his tools or allies. And his gift, one that would see him burned alive were it to be discovered, allows him to take risks others would not dare take. Is he redeemable? Sure. But, ultimately, it is up to his very few friends and allies to put him on the right path.
