Baldur’s Gate 3 (PS5) – My Favorite Items

Having played almost six months of Baldur’s Gate 3, there are some items I have come to cherish, be it weapons, armour or other gear. Here it is: my favorite items in Baldur’s Gate 3. Beware of minor SPOILERS.

Goran is one of my favorite adventurers: an oathbreaker paladin with Karlach as love interest.
  • Adamantine Splint Armour (Warrior class)
This heavy armour can be forged at the Ancient Forge in the Underdark’s Grymforge in Act 1. It has since served my Half-Orc Oathbreaker Paladin well into Act III. Also, if you find yourself hard-pressed defeating Grym, the forge’s guardian, without using the hammer, it is actually very vulnerable to Bludgeoning damage. My Open Hand Monk (Balanced) took the guardian out in three or four rounds, all by herself. This armour is great on your party’s tank, because all damage is reduced by 2, enemies cannot land critical hits on the wearer and you have Adamantine Backlash, which sends attackers reeling for 3 turns once they land a melee hit on you.
  • Grymskull Helm (Warrior class)
The guardian of Grymforge will drop this beauty once defeated and I always use it for my tank. Why? Because it gives you Hunter’s Mark and also prevents attackers from landing critical hits. Plus: resistance to fire damage.
  • Cloak Of Protection (Any class)
This cloak gives you +1 armour class and +1 saving throw
I usually use the Spidersilk armour on my rogue until stealth is no longer a deciding factor, e.g. during the final battle.
  • Spidersilk Armour (Rogue class)
This armour has been actually made for a paladin – Minthara – but it is light armour and thus perfect for stealthy rogues. I usually give it to Astarion. You gain +1 to Stealth Checks as well as Advantage on Constitution Saving Throw Checks, which is a bonus for the vulneable rogue class. There is an even better drow light armour in game, but I cannot remember its name or where I found it. Sorry.
  • Warped Headband of Intellect (Any class)
Warrior classes usually do not depend on their intellect, so, if you’d like to boost that, use this headband. It sets Intelligence at 17 permanently, leaving you free to redistribute your Intelligence points to other characteristics. It can be looted from the corpse of Lump the Enlightened, found in the Blighted Viallge in Act 1. It did serve me vey well after I went through the purification ritual in the Githyanki creche and had Wisdom permanently lowered.
The best gloves for Astarion.
  • Gloves Of Thievery or Gloves Of Power (Rogue class)
The Gloves Of Thievery can be bought in the Zentharim Hideout and will boost Astarion’s lockpicking and pickpocketing skills immensely. The Gloves Of Power are most effective when the wearer has the Absolute’s brand, which you can get in the goblin camp from Priestess Gut. On hit, they allow you to possibly inflict -1d4 penalty to the targets attack rolls and saving throws. Also, they boost Sleight Of Hand +1.
Dual-wield sorcerer!
  • Mourning Frost (Mage class)
This staff has one of the most damage as staffs go and what I really like about it is that you have to find its pieces and reassemble it yourself. All the pieces can be found on drow wizards in the Underdark. Since I usally make my sorcerers and wizards dual-wielders, it is a staff that compliments other, legendary ones found later in the game quite well.
  • Blackguard Armour-Set (Warrior class)
This awesome armour can be looted from the guards of the Murder Tribunal. The set includes the Blackguard’s Plate (heavy armour) which reduces all incoming damage by 1 and gives you advantage on Wisdom Saving Throw Checks, Blackguard’s Gauntlets, which give you the Inflict Wounds spell for necrotic damage, and the Blackguard’s Greaves, which bestow upon you the Longstrider condition and +1 Athletics.
  • Everburn-Blade
The Everburn-Blade is the very first awesome Act 1-weapon you can get in the prologue, once you have defeated the gambion leader inside the crashing Nautiloid. So far, I have only been able to get it when playing on Explorer difficulty as Half-Orc paladin. As the name says, it deals fire damage.
Vanishing boots…
  • Boots of Genial Striding / Disintegrating Night Walker Boots
The boots of Genial Striding let you ignore difficult terrain. Which is a sweet, sweet bonus indeed. The Disintegrating Night Walkers are another great choice of shoewear, usually for rogues like Astarion. You cannot be entangled, ensnared or enwebbed and cannot slip on grease or ice. Bonus: you gain the Invisibility spell. Perfect!
  • Birthright (Warlock and Sorcerer class)
This fetching hat, bought at Sorcery’s Sundries in Baldur’s Gate, is essential for sorcerers and warlocks, since it gives the wearer a +2 boost to charisma. Perfect for my Storm Sorcerer/Warlock hybrid.
  • Bonespike armour set (Barbarian)
This is my go-to armour-set for Karlach.
  • Amulet of Restoration (Any class)
I usually give this amulet to either Gale or Shadowheart. It gives the wearer two healing spells and since Shadowheart is usally the party’s medic, she gets an additional healing bonus for the party.
  • Ring of Regeneration (Any class)
This ring gives you combat regeneration. Meaning that on the start of each turn you gain 1-4 hit points. Which is a bonus for vulnerable classes.
  • Paid The Price (Any class)
This is a conditon you get if you agree to get Auntie Ethel’s help in removing your tadpole. It will cost you an eye and give you disadvantage on certain checks, but boost your intimidation proficiency. Did you know that you can intimidate the Githyanki in the Emperor’s hideout into leaving without a fight if you have that proficiency and Lae’zel in your party?

Since Baldur’s Gate 3 is jam-packed with loot, it was not an easy decision, but here thex are, my favorite 15 items.

Until next time, keep on playing!
Cheers
