One of my all-time favorite franchises is undoubtedly the new HITMAN-series, now dubbed HITMAN: World of Assassinations. Originally, it was a three part tale to revive the series following the world’s most superior assassin, Agent 47, literally around the globe.
Admittedly, it was really hard for me to choose a favorite mission from that series, but, in the end, the choice was an obvious one. Let’s dive in and become the apex predator in the mission of the same name, featured in HITMAN 3.
Also, here is an overview of which games and missions were featured in this series so far: become the apex predator in the mission of the same name, featured in HITMAN 3.
Also, here is an overview of which games and missions were featured in this series so far:
Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, Saving Caterina Sforza: The romance, the humor! Everything about that relationship, really.
Deus ex: Mankind Divided, Claiming Jurisdiction: Do you choose the smart, stealthy approach, or brute force?
Deus ex: Human Revolution, Infiltrating Tai Yong Medical and confronting Zhao: That’s one intense infiltration mission where my sole goal is remaining undetected.
Assassin’s Creed II, Assassinating the Templar Doge: This one is Ezio’s masterpiece and a kind of deja-vu.
Thief, A Friend In Need: The master-thief may not need friends, but he does not let his allies down. Even if it means walking into a trap.
Assassin’s Creed, Assassinating William of Montferat: Over the past missions Altair has gained notoriety and this hit is the last one before he faces his arch-nemesis, so the stakes are high and the guards on high alert.
Aragami, The Last Captain: While the wraith-like aragami can usually take full advantage of the shadows and strike his enemies down like some awesome predator, in this intense confrontation he is the one being hunted.
Dishonored, Eliminating The High Overseer (and some more): The first mission in this game is a defining one, I think. And, as a bonus, I added my favorite missions from the two story DLCS Knife Of Dunwall and The Brigmore Witches.
Dishonored 2, Unseen In The Dust District: The Dust District is one of the toughest missions in this gem, when played the first time. Your goal: exploit a gang war to get to the key to a masterfully locked door.
Watch_Dogs, Prison Break: A terrifying conman/hacker gets himself imprisoned on purpose, but the real challenge is getting back out alive.
Why this mission?
While Agent 47 usually works on his own, infiltrating hostile territory with his target and a clean kill firmly in mind, in the third mission of HITMAN 3 he is forced to step into a trap, to save his new associate, Olivia, before she is found and killed herself. The star of the mission is the setting itself: a rave club and adjacent biker hangout on the outskirts of Germany’s capital of Berlin, which presents a a very crowded scene with multiple enemy agents hidden amongst the crowd waiting for a chance to kill 47. Therefore, observation, stealth and finesse are the most promising way to win.
The good news: you only have to kill five agents to send a message to their handlers. But the fun part? You have to identify them first and find a smart way to eliminate them, move like an apex predator, if you will. Because if you mess up, you will be faced with an army of enemies in a place that – on your first playthrough, and, probably, your second, feels like a maze. Also, since I am German, the location being Berlin tickled me in a very special way.
The Approach
As is customary, you are thrown into the deep end. In this case 47 is stranded on an empty street somewhere outside the city. Since you arrive unprepared and unsure of what you are walking into, your inventory will be very limited. When you arrive at the club, you will need an invitation to enter, Which you don’t have. So, you can either infiltrate in secret – which is always fun – or do a favor for a guy in the parking lot, and he will get you inside.
Rest assured that there are several points of infiltration, some harder than others, but the easiest is cutting through the line standing in front of the door and head toward the left side of the building, Sneak past some guards and staff and find your way to the back of the club. Assuming you took out the guard patrolling the woods you will now be equipped with an earpiece and a silenced gun. Especially the earpiece will be a literal life saver, at least for a while.
The thrill of the chase as you slowly work your way through the club, always remaining unseen or unnoticed, is exhilarating indeed. Observation and patience are key, as is grabbing every tool you can get your hands on, namely screw drivers, wrenches or crow bars. Those will open doors for you or serve to facilitate an accidental kill.
Also, there are a few very unique opportunities for you to explore and exploit, one of which is taking over the turn tables and make the crowd go wild. Add a pumping dance track to accompany your every move and you have a very tense mission indeed.
I remember that, during my very first playthrough, I held my breath more times than I can count, and felt totally immersed in the game. Which was awesome!
And that’s it for Favorite Mission 11! If you haven’t given HITMAN a chance yet, now may be the time!
Also, because I am feeling nostalgic and replaying the HITMAN-locations, I will be presenting my favorite locations in a separate post.
Until then, keep on playing.
Cheers
Vanessa
